Secretary's Scuttlebutt

Well we are halfway to Colorado Springs and certainly looking forward to it. As our President has previously editorialized Colorado Springs is probably our last 'exotic' stop. The Officer's Conference Call meeting was held in April as specified in the By-Laws. Two main topics were discussed. Electronic Champ Ninety percent of the Champs that we have are already available electronically at our site www.usslca.org. If you do not have high speed internet you will probably get frustrated downloading them. As far as future Champs being available, both on the site and as emails we need a couple of volunteers help with this project. We need someone who can convert the printed form to distal format for posting (we have the procedure). We also need someone to help clean up our email database by contacting our members and forwarding the results to the Secretary. We have lost our volunteers for these projects over the past couple of years. Volunteers are always needed to do Association duties. The President has placed a high priority on this project. Plattsburgh 2014 The officers have establish a position that every effort should be made to hold the 2014 Reunion in Plattsburgh NY (pending membership approval), in coordination with the Town of Plattsburgh's memorial weekend commemoration of the Battle of Lake Champlain. Commitee Chairman Charles Young has been approved by the President to enter negotiations with the Town to facilitate this action. Also as part of this, the Town will move the Ship's Bell of the USS Lake Champlain to the new site to be installed at a Lake Champlain Memorial as a new memorial. A fund raising campaign will be undertaken to defer the costs of the project; the full details have not been decided but probably will be available by the Fall 2012 Champ. We are in dire need for someone willing to work with Charlie Young. We are looking for someone who can get to Plattsburgh once in awhile. They would work under Charles's direction and would meet with the Town representative. There are volunteers but they are about three hours away. If you can serve in this capacity please contact one of the Officers or Charlie Young directly. Don't forget to check out the weekly additions on Ed Killian's related Yahoo Site; you can reach it directly from our site usslca.org by clicking the related menu items on top or bypass our site completely and go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/USS_Lake_Champlain/
